About Indigo Research
Indigo Research is a group of Professors, PhD candidates, Master’s students, and career educators brought together by the common goal of making research accessible to all. That’s why we decided to establish an education company with the potential to both inspire and transform the academic journeys of generations of students.
Our focus is on helping high school students realize their potential to dive deep into an academic field and produce undergraduate-level research. The future will be written by these students—and our mission at Indigo is to teach them to think critically, analyze evidence, generate hypotheses, and approach their work with academic rigor, such that they’ll enter college prepared to make meaningful contributions on their campuses.
We also assist applicants to graduate school who may have missed the opportunity to complete rigorous research during their undergraduate careers. Our aim for these students is to remove the obstacle of inexperience to their future aims, helping them to build confidence and comfort in academic research prior to applying to graduate programs.
How Indigo Works
As an Indigo Research Mentor, you'll have the opportunity to work remotely with talented students from around the world, guiding and inspiring them as they pursue their academic passions. Some students will begin with a tabula rasa, sure only of the broad subject area they’ve chosen to research. Others will arrive having narrowed their interests down to a sub-field, and some may even have a research question prepared.
Your work will include helping students choose an outcome to target from our database — would they like to submit their research to a particular competition or high school journal, or is their project more open-ended? Then, you’ll help them shape their research question and provide them with a few sessions of background in the subject area. The remaining sessions are spent providing feedback and guidance as the student completes their literature review, chooses their methodology, composes their body paragraphs, and finalizes their paper. Your primary role throughout will be as guide and overseer, helping the student remain focused, directed, and on-track and ensuring their work meets a high standard of academic rigor.

Workplace & Culture
With flexible hours, competitive compensation, and the opportunity to work from anywhere, this role is perfect for those who are passionate about education and enjoy shaping young minds. Indigo mentors operate mostly autonomously, scheduling meetings and conducting them on their own time.
Expectations include meeting with students every 30 days on average, communicating professionally and courteously, and utilizing our resources (a database of research questions to choose from, a database of journals and competitions, a series of checkpoints and deadlines to keep students on track, and, soon, a flexible curriculum for mentors to use).
